The USA Premiere Showing of Vladimir Maykov, Ph.D.'s new film "The Garden of Souls: The
Gateway to the Inner Universe"
In the town of Salantai (Lithuania), not far from Palanga, there is a farm where hundreds of
sculptures created by Vilius Orvydas are located. Being a third-generation stonemason and
sculptor of tombstones, Vilius began to create sculptures not only on the themes of Catholic
Christianity, but also Buddhism, Hinduism, paganism, shamanism, mystical traditions, astrology.
His estate began to turn into a huge workshop, where miracles were performed under the sun
and pouring rain. The presence of old gods and shamanic spirits is felt here. When you walk
through this tangle of stones and trees, it is impossible not to feel a sense of great mystery.
Vilius Orvidas was a special sculptor-gardener and his "garden of souls" is a unique creation
that should be carefully preserved for all future generations. There are not many similar places
in the world where nature and sculptures are so beautifully and organically united. If
Michelangelo "removed excess from the stone," then Vilus freed the stone, revealing the soul
hidden in it and preserving its connection with nature and the earth.
The work of Vilius Orvidas gives us new opportunities to understand the healing power of art
and art therapy, as well as the origins of many modern problems related to the universal
archetype of the Shadow, and ways to solve them. The ways he found to heal the deepest
wounds of the soul can be very useful to practitioners of great spiritual traditions, helping them
get rid of serious obstacles.
